Environmental Change-Makers

Environmental Change-Makers is a community group in the Westchester area of Los Angeles (90045, near LAX airport) that Joanne Poyourow founded in 2005 with Peter Rood.  Among other projects, in 2008 the Change-Makers created the Community Garden at Holy Nativity, in 2011 they helped found the Emerson Avenue Community Garden, and in 2015 they built the Westchester Community Oven.

The Change-Makers also brought the international Transition Movement to Southern California. This worldwide network of grassroots groups explored how local communities must change to adapt to peak oil, climate change, and economic contraction.  Transition Los Angeles was the city hub for eight neighborhood groups, and was part of both national and international networks.

In 2019 Peter left Los Angeles for Washington State. Joanne continues change-making work through her Change-Making.com website. She continues to teach about environmental solutions at venues throughout Southern California.
